We believe in art, storytelling, and independence. We have searched for the best tools available for creative people who want to earn a living through their imaginative work. Today, we are going to explore one of the tools we use for creating digital art.
Though there are other tools we have explored for making our digital illustrations, including Krita and Opentoons, the best fit for us is Blender.
What is Blender?
Blender is a professional grade software for creating 2D and 3D content including images and animations. Blender is also open source and completely free.
Before we go further, we must state that Blender is a complex program and does have a bit of a learning curve in order to use. However, if you invest a little bit of time you will find that it is capable to create professional quality content. Additionally, Blender is time-tested and has been around for over twenty-five years.

A tool for independent artists:
We are not interested in expensive industry tools that require large teams to work on. On the contrary, in this this space House of Lundi aims to show what can be accomplished with very small teams, or even individuals.
Whether you are an independent filmmaker or you want to create illustrations and animations, Blender is an excellent choice.
For example, we used Blender to make these short animations:
Additionally, blender is the primary tool we currently use to create line art covers for our kindle e book publications
The House of Lundi edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has over 30 original color illustrations, all made in Blender.
In future posts, we will dive deep into how we use Blender. For now, we want to share the tool in order to hopefully inspire you to create your own independent art.
Here are two artists that demonstrate what Blender can do.
3d Master Ian Hubert
First, Ian Hubert is a Blender master with incredible attention to detail in his cyberpunk style visions. Check out his youtube and instagram. His Dynamo Dream episodes are mind blowing.
Make your own animated cartoon with Blended Planet
As for 2d animation, Dave Weese of Blended Planet is single handedly drawing, animating, and writing music for an anime-style tv show called Salt and Light. He uploads hours of content and his livestreams share the day to day process for producing animated cartoons with tons of real world obstacles and problem solving.
It's time for you to start creating!
House of Lundi will continue to share tools and resources for artists and creative people. Whether just for a fun hobby, or for those of you who want to start your own independent business creating and selling art. Remember that you don't need a lot of money to get started, and we will share the best free resources to help get you started.
